About This Spot

Stepping into Press Start in Rapid City feels like unlocking a playful chapter from childhood, wrapped in the buzz of an electric, laughter-filled room. This place hums with energy—joyful, casual, and unapologetically lively—where the clatter of arcade buttons and the whir of pinball machines create a soundtrack as inviting as the friendly chatter around you. The atmosphere is both a little nostalgic and refreshingly current, a spot where families, gamers, and locals come together to share in moments that feel easy and unscripted.

The space unfolds in two distinct but connected worlds: upstairs, a bright, vibrant playground alive with ticket games and prize counters, perfect for kids and groups looking for sheer, uncomplicated fun; downstairs, a dimmer, more intimate arcade dungeon filled with classic quarter-operated machines that beckon retro enthusiasts and those yearning for a slower, more focused kind of play.

Here, the food complements the action without stealing the spotlight. Think hearty, satisfying slices of pizza that carry just the right blend of comfort and flavor—whether it’s a tangy BBQ chicken or a rich mac and cheese pie—paired effortlessly with a crisp, local beer or a cleverly crafted cocktail that nods to gaming lore. Ordering a plate feels more like fueling up for the next round of fun rather than a formal dining experience. The menu blends familiar favorites with touches of whimsy that mirror the spirited atmosphere.

The pace is upbeat but never hurried, fostering moments to linger—whether cheering on a birthday party upstairs, sharing a quiet conversation over drinks downstairs, or discovering a hidden arcade gem. The staff infuses the space with warmth and attentiveness, gently helping each visitor settle into their own version of fun. It’s a place where the accessible joy of shared games and good company naturally invites repeat visits.

Alpt of kids birthday on the weekend but they seemed to like the upstairs with the ticket games more then downstairs with the old school quarter games. That's where I spent most of the time. In the dungeon with the quarter games. Pretty neat place!

We had a great birthday with a surprisingly good pizza. The Pinball and classic games are epic but they are downstairs which is inaccessible to those with disabilities. The ticket to prize ratio is low, making the cashout moment a little disappointing but the play time is a lot of fun.

Press Start is a must if youre visiting Rapid City! For people of all ages, the pizza is delicious, the arcade downstairs is full of old school games and pin ball machines!! The employees are friendly too, it's a great atmosphere. I can't wait to visit again next time im in town!

First time eating at Press Start, just two adults. We were looking for a local pizza joint, and Press Start was a good one! A bit noisy and active due to the arcade machines so near to dining, but overall it was a good experience. Our server and the other staff were very friendly and helpful.

Wonderful place! The main floor is more kid oriented with ticket games and prizes. It kind of feels like a small Dave and Busters. ... But then the old arcade games from the 80s are downstairs and are awesome!! 25 cents to play. Good drinks, great service! We got the waffle fry nachos and they were amazing! Absolutely loaded and not a dry fry on the plate. Addictive.

I had a great time! The food was decent, the staff was very attentive. The servers and the hosts(?) were great. The hosts kept the games full with tickets and were so friendly!! The games were very fun to play. There was a good variety of prizes for tickets as well. And of course there were the older games. There was even a air hockey game for 4 players downstairs with the older games. Most of the games upstairs were 25 cents, some being 50 cents and a few being $1. There was also a small photo booth for $2 upstairs :)
